OK so so im great in all my subjects but math , it's not that i don't try it's just that I'm bad at math overall and i am in 8th grade and my math teacher said i'm going to have to take algebra again as a freshman .But i want as a job is to be in law as a denfense attorney . Will this problom keep me from going to a 4 year college ?+ I have A's and B's in everything besides math - C .
Can you still go to college if you suck at math?
Yes, you can get into college. No, you will not get into a great college. You will be competing against a bunch of kids who are good at math.
It's a cop-out to say you suck at math. The truth is that you don't like math and don't want to apply yourself to math. That's fine if you don't care about going to a good college or having a great career. It all builds up: The best firms only hire from the best Law Schools. The best Law Schools only take the highest GPAs from the best colleges. The best colleges only take the best HS graduates. And they know math.
So quit babbling on the computer, hire a tutor, and spend at least 3 times more effort studying math as you currently do. And do this now, while you have a chance to turn things around.
You're already in 8th grade, stop screwing around.
Reply:Absolutely. Most colleges require very little math performance and require you to take very little math while there if your field of study has nothing to do with math.
Will you get into a prestigious 4 year school with poor math grades: no. You may have to settle for a smaller school or a state college or university.
When it comes to law, many smaller schools have fine law programs, and you'll care more about the law school you go to for your grad degree.
Reply:im in college and i suck at math......so yes
Reply:you shouldn't be worrying too much since you're just in 8th grade. it says alot that you are already thinking about college at your age.
i'm a freshman in college right now and i hate math, i've always been bad at it. you have four more years before college. just work hard and get a tutor if you think you need one. or you can ask a friend or classmate to HELP you (notice i say help, don't let them do all the work). don't be ashamed to ask for help from the teacher, it shows that you really want to do well and it will leave a good impression on them about you.
i'm really glad your thinking about college but don't stress about it now, you have time.
Reply:It will not prevent you from going to a 4-year college, but you WILL have to finish a few more math classes once you're in college. If you continue to do poorly in math, make sure you apply to one or two state colleges/universities, and you can always go to a community college to catch up on the math before applying to a 4-year school.

Reply:Of course you can. As long as you know a decent amount of basic math, you'll be alright. But really try and at least get your basic math down. It would also help to at least try to learn some basic algebra, too. Just don't be scared to learn it. A lot of people get scared when they first see a problem they're not familiar with, but eventually it will kick in your head. If you're really struggling, don't worry. I know of lots of people out there who were bad at math (and still are) who are very successful right now. Especially with what your going to be doing, who needs math. As long as you get that C, your good. I, myself never really went above algebra 1. Not that I couldn't pass it. It's because I never tried. I actually was very good in math up until the 10th grade (back then we didn't learn algebra 1 until the 9th grade. 8th grade I believe we learned pre-algebra) when I started hanging around the wrong crowd and never really went to class much. I didn't make the effort to learn more. Now I'm 29 and I'm going back to school to become an electrical engineer which does require algebra. Anyways, I'm not a perfect example of not needing to know math, but I know that there's a lot of people out there who gets straight C's and are bad at math, graduate and become very successful. As long as you make that effort, nothing can stop you to becoming what you want to become.
Reply:You really need to apply your self more in math if all you can handle is a C. Yes it is not the end of the world and you do not have to be amazing at math to go to college, but you are in 8th grade. You have plenty of time to learn to do better in math. Perhaps you should try getting a tutor to help you with math.
Reply:I would work on it. If you really care go to a learning center near you.
