Trouble with Math problem on standardized test!!!!!?

This was on my standardized math test... I answered c and I was just wondering if I got it correct... could you also explain why you got that answer? THANK YOU!!!

In a survey, 90% of people answered yes when asked if teachers should be paid more. 40% of people answered yes when asked if the school year should be longer. What is the percent of people who answered yes to both questions?

a)0%-10%

b)10%-30%

c)30%-40%

d)40%-60%

e)60%-70%

Trouble with Math problem on standardized test!!!!!?
this is easier if you convert the percents to decimals

first you have 1 as the whole group surveyed

1 x .90 for the yes to the first question = .90

.90 x the .40 who answered yes to #2 = .36

so the answer is c

Congrats
Reply:Lower limit = 30%

Upper limit = 40%
Reply:Its 2 different questions...there is no way to tell who answered yes to both questions...Unless you missed out a part of the question
Reply:I'm just guessing, but I think you got it right.

At most, 10 percent of the people who answered the teacher question said yes to the school year, which leaves 30 percent. At most, all 40 percent of the school year people said yes to the teacher question. That leaves 30-40 percent -- answer "c."
Reply:I would think that 40% of the 90% would be correct. That would make it 36%. So, I would have picked c.
Reply:D
Reply:asnwer is C.

Because - given that 40% said yes to longer school year. therefore, 90% of the 40% must have said yes to both answers since 90% of all people asnwered "teachers should be paid more"

thus 90% of 40% is 36%.

therefore, C ist he correct answer
Reply:the answer is c because if all of the 40% of people are inside the 90% that's the maximum amount of people who could have said yes and if the 10% that didn't say yes to the first question said yes to the second one, then only 30% said yes to both questions
Reply:(90/100)X(40/100)=36%

you were right
