Any good advice for improving your math grade?

I have a C- right now in Math and I want to improve my grade. What advice could you give me to encourage me to get going and start doing homework, studying for tests, pay attention more, etc?

As a teacher I think you'll make alot of progress by approaching your teacher and telling him/her that you are concerned about your grade and ask him/her about what to do. A start might be some extra help at lunch or after school. Maybe your teacher will let you make up missing assignments or improve assignments that weren't done well. The rest - paying attention and doing homewirk comes down to self discipline. Something that used to work for me was to give myself a little reward for doing all of my work for the week. It gives you some incentive o work for when you just dont feel like it. Hope this helps!
Reply:Play music you like softly in the background. If you associate the music with math study, it will be easier to get into. And it helps your right brain work too. That makes it easier to concentrate.


Think of math as doing puzzles. There may be more than one way to do a problem. Do as many practice problems as you can. Don't spend too much time with a problem you are stuck on. It just causes more frustration. Skip it and move on.

Reply:the way i always did well in math was to just pay attention and do my work in class. i went through all of pre-calculus in high school, where we were assigned daily homework assignments, and i had to take my work home maybe five times over the course of the year. also, if you do your work in class, you have the option of asking the teacher if you don't get something. do those two things (pay attention, do work in class), and you won't need to do homework at home, study for tests, etc.





hopefully your friends in class aren't too used to you turning around and talking in your free time...

Reply:Talk to your teacher about what you can do to improve your grade. In my class, students who do poorly on quizzes are usually the same students who do not do their homework or who didn't understand the homework. I give time to start homework in class, so they do have time to ask questions if they are having trouble with it, but some of them waste the time talking with their friends. For poor grades on tests, I recommend reviewing all the assignments since the last test and making sure you can do each type of problem.
Reply:You are responsible for yourself. No one is going to do it for you. You need to be disciplined for yourself. So, the short answer is, 'just do it'.
Reply:i have the same problem. i go to extra help, sometimes ask for some extra work before a test, ect. if math is your only bad subject, though, just don't worry about it. your parents will accept it!
Reply:I was in the same position when I was taking math all the way through high school...the best thing for me was to get a math tutor so I could have lots of 1 on 1 help.
Reply:Math was my best subject. Always do the work IN class if at all possible, that way if you get "stumped" you can ask the teacher for direction and find out where you've messed up right away. The most I can say is with the way that the world is, young people need a college education. If you want to get in to a good college, you need to do everything in your power to study and get your work done, otherwise your GPA won't be high enough to get into the college that you want.
