the 2 is the exponent

Math: A parabola with equation y=x(exponent)2+bx+c passes through the points (2,3) and (4,3). Find b and c?
Using point 1:

3 = 4 + 2b + c

c = -2b-1 call this equation 1

Using point 2:

3 = 16 + 4b + c

c = -4b-13 call this equation 2

Subtracting E2 from E1 gives:

0 = 2b + 12

Solving, b = -6

c = -2b-1

c = 12-1

c = 11
