I am a senior that has already applied to U.C Davis and U.C santa Cruz.
i have a 3.2 unweighted gpa and i have take nearly 9 ap and honors class since sophmore year, without counting the 3 I have this year. which would make it 12 ap and honors classes.
i have terrible scores in sats. about a 1670 on sat1 and 570 on physics. 580 on math 2. i have about 300 hours of community service. i have taken algebra 2, precal, and calculus 1 at a community college for credit. i have work experience and i am also part of the speech and debate team. i have worked very hard to get to this point, and honestly, as of this very day, i believe my dreams have been crushed. i found out my grades which ran A,B,A,A,B, and finally D. the class in which i recieved a D in is Ap Statistics, although i am asian. i am not very good at math at all. i also have let a former U.C admissions director read my personal statement and revised it.
Now with all that in mind, what are my chances of getting into U.C davis?
U.C Davis chances for acceptance for me?
You will forsure get into UC Santa Cruz which is a great campus. UCSC I think is the hidden gem of the UC's.
I think you have a really good chance at getting into UC Davis to tell you the truth. Your weighted Gpa is what matters and that will most likely be above a 3.5. Your SAT is unfavorable but if you wrote a solid letter, I would say you have an above average chance. 5/7 chance you'll get admitted. UC's definately look at if you've challenged yourself, and you have. If you find yourself not getting accepted, apply for summer enrollment and that will most likely feed you into fall admissions. Good Luck!
Reply:I'm not for certain, but you increase your chances of acceptance by applying to one of the humanity or arts colleges and going undeclared. Those kinds of schools at any UC are almost easy to get get admitted. If you choose this option, you may or may not be able to apply to one of the science or engineering schools (that depends on their policies regarding declaring majors and switching between colleges) because of this which will limit your career options if they don't permit. If you're really intent on going to UCD then you should consider going to a junior college and transferring over once you completed the requirements. You should look into those options. By the way, if anything, you can get into UCR for sure. They take anyone. Almost.
Reply:I want to say you have a chance -- you show potential. However, I'd have to say you have a yes/no/maybe chance. =] Just wait and see what happens! I think that D in AP Stats will hurt your chances though. A 'D' in anything looks ugly, in my opinion.
