Math Has Gone Bad?

This year im in middle school and my math grade has gone down the drain. In elementary school math was a piece of cake but now im getting C 's and on some quizs D 's and F 's. I do all my homework and I strive to do my best. I let my parents see my report card and they think I can do better and I know I can. I study math daily and I get 10/10 on my homework. Does anyboyd know tips or study guides that can help me with math?

Math Has Gone Bad?
The best way to improve your test scores is to do more practice problems. If you have a textbook for your math class, there are probably problems at the end of every chapter. Before you have a test or a quiz, do a whole bunch of problems from the chapers you've been studying in class, even though they weren't assigned as homework.

If you don't have a textbook, or there aren't practice problems in it, get together with a friend in your class and make up practice problems for each other. If both of you do them then you can check that your answers match to be sure you're getting them right. The easiest way to make up problems is to look through your old homework papers and take the same problems but change the numbers so you have to do the work again.

If you're having trouble understanding how to do particular types of problems, then talk to your teacher about it. You might also still be able to get your parents to help explain things to you, but you can't rely on that indefinitely because eventually you'll get to a level of math that they don't remember how to do anymore. But if you're having trouble understanding the material then hopefully you wouldn't be getting such high scores on your homework, so I think that it's more likely that you just need to practice more to remember how to do them when the test comes.

Since you're getting perfect scores on your homework, and then C's on the tests and quizzes then you're right that you can do better in the class. Congratulations on doing so well on your homework! It's good that you care about your school work and want to do better on it - for kids your age that's often the hardest part.
Reply:You might be like me. I have a problem with ABSTRACTS

E=MC2

Once all the numbers vanish I had a problem with things.

Unfortunately, THIS is how they teach math. Which I oppose. I think REAL WORLD math should also be valid.

My only advise to you is to learn a little computer programming (it's ALL algebra) even if it's just on an Excell Spread Sheet.

Then work the equations with real numbers and see if real world examples help you understand the math.

I program and I find myself doing all that GOBBLY ****, even simplification. But a year later it's all GREEK to me, because I'm not good with ABSTRACTS.

Some people just aren't

To be

You go

Here now

What does that mean! It's ABSTRACT

It's an incomplete sentence.

MATH works that way, but real life doesn't!
Reply:Miss Katelyn, don't sweat it. Sometimes the transition from elementary to middle school is rough. If you're doing all your homework, and understand the subject you're studying, then you may just be getting nervous taking tests. Lots of people have that problem. They just tense up, and all the answers seem to go out the window. Take practice quizzes/tests at home. Also, when you take a test or quiz, relax. Remind yourself that you know the material, and a quiz is no different than homework. Good luck!
