Math question?

if a nurse makes 55,000 a year how much does she make per hour. Im trying to figure out if I want to b/c a nurse or not and im not good at math

Math question?
Well, $55,000 a year

Divded by 52 weeks a year = $1057.69 per week

Divided by a 40-hour work week = $26.44 per hour.

Though assuming a 40 hour work week is a bit of a stretch; especially for someone just starting out in a hospital setting. A 50 hour week (figuring time and a half for overtime) would mean $19.23 an hour; a 60 hour week would give you $15.11
Reply:Nurses make different salaries in different parts of the country. In Texas they don't start at $55,000 -- that's what they make after 10 years, however I don't know where you live and that's not what you asked. If a nurse's salary is $55,000 and she works 40 hours a week for 50 weeks of the year (with 2 weeks vacation time) that would be 2000 hours. Divide that into 55,000 and you get $27.50 per hour.

If the pay is the only reason you want to be a nurse, then you better think of another career, because you won't be good at nursing unless you love your work. It can be grueling both physically and emotionally.
Reply:well...

365 days in a year

24 hours a day

8760 hours

55000/8760

$6.28 ... but that's assuming that you work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Overall, that's pretty low pay. Unless you do it to become an actual M.D., I don't think it's the kind of salary you're looking for (not to say that it isn't a worthy career, because it is).
